Flaxseed

Flex (Linum usitatissimum) is an annual plant, which belongs to the Linum genus, Linaceae family. This plant is also known as “linseed”. It has blue flowers and brown or yellow seeds. The process of growing flaxseed began as early as 4000-2000 BC in the Mediterranean and Middle East regions. The history has some interesting evidence about the King Charlemagne, who was so excited about health benefits of flaxseed, that he imposed a law requiring people to use it. And you know, he was absolutely right, because flaxseed benefits are really impressive, this plant is a surprising godsend in our times. This ancient symbol of purity is used not only as an ornamental plant, flaxseed and seed oil are used to make medicine. As you know flax is also used to make linen. Seeds are used in culinary.

Flaxseed is rich in omega-3 fatty acids, fiber, lignans and has antioxidant properties. Take advantage and feel all the benefits of flaxseed, using it in your everyday diet.  Add ground or whole flaxseed to baked goods, yogurt, cheese; mix it with fruit, berries, jams. There are also many flaxseed oil benefits. You can buy it in any drugstore and use as a nutrition supplement. And now let’s see the list of health problems, which flaxseed may help to solve:

Are there any flaxseed side effects? Actually, it is safe for most adults. As it is rich in fiber, don’t use it in high doses or either it may cause gas, constipation, bloating, diarrhea.  Don’t use unripe or raw flaxseed. Pregnant and breast-feeding women are recommended to consult a doctor, before using flax.
